The minutes of the March 7, 2011 meeting will be approved at the May meeting when there is a quorum of members who attended the March meeting. (Barbara Traskos did not attend the March meeting.)

     1. Public Open Forum – Julie Edmondson
Julie Edmondson, 45 Lyme Street, submitted a CofA requiring a public hearing concerning the rear addition roof:  replace asphalt shingles with cedar shingles (change of materials). Ms. Edmondson will repair the roof immediately and agreed to replace the new shingles if anyone objects at the May public hearing. She also plans to: replace the white vertical vinyl siding on the rear addition with cedar shakes, remove the rear deck and lattice fence and install a patio and landscaping.
Action: Submit May 2nd Notice of Public Hearing, notify neighbors and place advertising (Martha Hansen).

     2. Plaque Program update – Martha Hansen
    E. F. Watermelon, 24 Lyme Street: There is no mention of specific buildings in the land records back to 1843.
Edmondson, 45 Lyme Street: Catherine Whipp (wife of Simon Whipp) bought ¼ acre from Daniel Chadwick on January 17, 1837. Catherine Whipp purchased another ¼ acre south of Simon Whipp’s tailor shop from Mr. Chadwick (land records 1850). None of the land records mention the ell being moved from the parsonage. Jim Bechtel found information in a 1970 Historic District Handbook showing the house on an 1815 map of Old Lyme.
Action: Check the copy of the 1815 map at the Library (Martha Hansen).
Action: Continue research on 24 Lyme Street, 45 Lyme Street, 60 Lyme Street and 68 Sill Lane; ask John Pfeiffer, town historian, to look at these properties re dates of construction (Martha Hansen).

     3. Business News & Secretary’s Report – Martha Hansen
No decision has been made on the Scenic Road application.

     4. Other old or new business
Kathryn Burton contacted Jim Bechtel about her interest in restoring Old Lyme’s “Mile of Roses” along the east side of Lyme Street north of I-95. The “Mile of Roses” was a popular attraction in the 1920s and 1930s.  Jim suggested that Ms. Burton contact the Tree Commission, the Duck River Garden Club, and the Old Lyme Historical Society.

     5. Adjournment
Barbara Traskos made a motion, seconded by Janet Sturges, to adjourn the meeting at 10:50 a.m. All present voted in favor. Motion carried.

   Respectfully submitted,

    Martha Hansen
